When in 2008 Intel Corporation teamed up with STMicroelectronics
and Francisco Partners, they formed the third largest producer of
non-volatile memory solutions. The new joint venture, Numonyx, is a
global organisation that supplies memory solutions for business and
consumer devices including mobile phones, cameras and computers.
The Challenge
Creating a brand new global organisation such
as Numonyx required a build from the ground up. The company was
formed through the combination of research and development,
manufacturing, marketing and sales functions from three separate
entities. Aside from the complexities of combining three separate
company cultures, there was the added challenge of geographical
distribution – manufacturing plants in the Philippines and Malaysia
combined with research and development centres in the US, Italy and
China. Additionally, the company needed to be up and running in
short timeframes, allowing only a few months to become fully
operational worldwide.
Faced with such diverse operating conditions
and short setup timeframes, Numonyx made the decision to outsource
central functions to third-party providers. In selecting a
recruitment partner, they chose Alexander Mann Solutions (AMS),
noting AMS’s experience and strong history in rapid, effective
recruitment solution implementations.
It proved to be an unusual situation for AMS,
with no incumbent suppliers, recruitment team, workflows or
technology to contend with during implementation. “In many ways,
this is a true greenfields recruitment project, which doesn’t
happen very often,” says Matthew Rodger, Practice Director at AMS.
“It’s a unique situation for us to be in, working with a large
organisation that has no existing recruitment infrastructure to
work with.”
The
Solution
To ensure that Numonyx could begin to recruit
quickly, AMS released a ‘parachute team’ who immediately began
recruiting for Numonyx while working in conjunction with the AMS
implementation team to develop and implement a recruitment process.
The recruitment technology, Taleo Business Edition (TBE) was rolled
out simultaneously, and complete implementation of TBE was
completed within 12 weeks. The final solution and new process was
fine-tuned over an additional 12-week period.
Global Reach
AMS support Numonyx in all of their 17
locations worldwide, delivering service from offsite and offshore
hubs throughout the world. The recruitment team deliver services in
Switzerland, France, USA, Italy, China, Israel, Singapore,
Malaysia, and the Philippines. The majority of front-line support
is provided locally, with AMS’s Global Client Services Centre in
the Philippines providing administrative support for all countries
in-scope of the solution. This distributed approach provides a
number of benefits – cost efficiencies, scalability, local
expertise, and effective remote support.
Scope of Solutions
The scope of solutions covers the full
recruitment lifecycle, from requisition consultancy through to
pre-boarding and HR data transfer. This comprehensive solution
ensures that the complete recruitment process is compliant,
cost-effective, efficient and consistent. TBE, the technology which
underpins the recruitment services provided by the dedicated
network of experienced recruitment professionals, provides a
consistent workflow throughout all operating regions and helps
ensure that Numonyx has full transparency of all recruitment
activity and costs.
Employer Brand
With an unknown employer brand in a
competitive market, external direct recruitment – where external
candidates apply directly to the company – poses several
challenges. Any point of contact with a potential candidate also
represents a point of contact with a potential customer, and AMS
work closely with Numonyx to ensure that the employer brand aligns
strongly with the consumer brand. All contact with candidates is
fully Numonyx branded, including use of the Numonyx email and
telephony systems, with AMS service delivery staff seamlessly
integrated into the Numonyx organisation.
Regional and Role Complexity
Within countries in Asia, where there are a
high number of blue-collar roles, AMS have worked closely with
Numonyx to ensure the delivery model is adaptable to the specific
requirements of these roles, conducting site visits and meetings
with local HR and hiring communities to understand the complexities
of this type of hiring.
As a groundbreaking technology provider,
Numonyx employs large numbers of highly specialised technical
research and development staff. With talent pools of these
highly-sought-after staff particularly limited, AMS works very
closely with Numonyx to identify and attract candidates, using
best-practise sourcing channel management and attraction
strategies.
The adaptability of model ensures that Numonyx
receives the best candidates across the entire spectrum of roles,
from strategic management-level recruitment to highly technical
engineering roles to blue-collar worker requirements for
manufacturing plants.
