Retail & FMCG
Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) and the retail sector are the visible front of consumerism in developed and developing economies. The appetite of consumers for products and services drives the economy, and it’s from this sector that the cues of the wider economic picture are drawn.
It’s also a unique talent landscape, as the majority of the workforce in established economies will at some stage have worked in retail – for many people it’s their first experience in the workforce. Many of the world’s most recognisable, familiar brands are for FMCG products, and the fast-moving moniker is well-placed – this is a sector which undergoes constant, rapid change.

Challenges
There is one term which accurately summaries the FMCG and retail recruitment market: volume.
From shop staff and retailers to manufacturers, merchandisers and distributors, the sector is built on a large volume of people – it’s vital to find people, ensure that they can do the job, and then move them rapidly through the recruitment process. This is especially difficult in a sector which is highly seasonal, and where differentiation between employers can be difficult.
That’s at the customer-facing end, of course. In the background are the managers, the salespeople, the buyers, the marketers and the strategists – all of whom have particular skillsets not found in other sectors.
Finally, cost also plays a significant part in the recruitment agenda – retail and FMCG are driven by margin, and there is always a focus on costs.
Credentials
We’ve a wealth of experience in FMCG, recruiting for some of the world’s most recognised brands – not only finding talent for them. but supporting their wider hiring agenda and delivering technology solutions support.
Our Solutions
Outsourced recruitment is ideally suited to processing high volumes of candidates where cost is critical. We’ve built solutions which are blended models, allowing recruiters to sit onsite with customers and deliver a comprehensive in-house service, whilst leveraging the cost benefits of an offsite back office. This model works particularly well with seasonal hiring, as the off-site team have access to a pool of recruiters, providing additional support during times of peak activity.
We’ve worked with several clients to automate parts of the hiring process, including implementing pre-screening questions in the application process, reducing time to hire. This is achieved through technology and process automation – several clients have engaged us to provide expert advice on selecting the most appropriate and effective recruitment technology.
Our Contingent Workforce Solutions team has significant experience in helping organisations to manage large pools of temporary, casual and contract workers, including those brought on to help accommodate seasonal and cyclical hiring.
