Resources, Energy & Utilities

A broad and varied sector, resources, energy and utilities encompasses such industries as mining, energy production and supply, and the services distribution. It’s a massive section of the global economy, encompassing primary industries whilst also providing the infrastructure upon which manufacturing and other industries rely.

Challenges

With such a wide range of skills encompassed in the broader sector, it’s particularly difficult to find and attract the right talent. The combination of dispersed locations, significant global competition for talent and very specialised technical skillsets means limited candidate pools to draw from – creating staffing shortages in critical areas. With many organisations looking to draw talent from wherever they can find it, international sourcing is common – putting further pressure on local markets.

Alongside the niche skillsets are large business support, corporate and retail functions, all of which require regular sourcing activity in a competitive recruitment market.

Our Credentials

The Resources, Energy and Utilities sector is one of some significance to AMS. We’ve partnered with GeoServices, providing phased recruitment support for specific projects. You can read more about this project here.

We currently partner with NES to provide consulting services to Baker Hughes.

Our Solutions

Our resources, energy and utilities recruiters are specialists in this sector, with good knowledge of the niche skills required in the industry. These teams provide an on-site service, supported by a back office network which helps to minimise recruitment costs and to provide capacity to deal with the large volumes of candidates required for business support.

We create specific attraction and employer branding strategies that provide a point of differentiation in a tight market, whilst our recruiters leverage professional and social networks to seek out referred or hidden talent.

We source on a global basis; the sector has a motivated global workforce who is content to relocate where there are new opportunities. In recognisance of such a dispersed pool of talent, we’ve developed targeted search strategies to find candidates. Our team make use of specialised job boards across the globe, leveraging the strong networks that link this sector, and work particularly hard to develop and maintain interpersonal relationships with potential candidates.

Building such networks takes significant time, but ultimately provides a greater awareness and closeness to the market. This knowledge is shared amongst recruitment teams and helps us to set benchmarks, predict and identify sources of talent, and when appropriate, to make direct approaches to potential candidates.
